Good Samaritan Award Recipient-2008

Firefighters, EMT Lisa Mendenhall and Captain Erin Elder,
presented a “Good Samaritan Award” to Eagle Point resident, Lori Millard,
for using CPR techniques learned in a class taught by Mendenhall. The class was
for employees of the 4R Ranch in Eagle Point.
After a day’s work, Millard, her husband Wayne and good friend Jack
Spencer were talking in the Millard’s driveway when Spencer collapsed. While
her husband called
9-1-1
, Millard administered CPR, saving Spencer’s life. Mendenhall and Elder were
on duty when the call came in.
Spencer was transported to
Providence
Hospital
where Mendenhall also teaches CPR and first aid to employees at the medical
center. Both Mendenhall and Virginia Fleeger, Providence Training Center
Coordinator, pointed out this incident is an example of the importance of CPR
and first aid training for the public. Both women urge the community to take
classes wherever available.
